Stratford Upon Avon

Hi folks,

all set up for a nice day tomorrow.

Across the campsite and up on the hill was this obelisk the name of which escapes us. This is where Shakespeare had some land. It stands on the " Welcombe Hills"

Down the road on the way to get supplies this nice Wisteria adorned the wall of this house.

Back on the campsite we checked out the surroundings, across the bridge was another campsite.

This our clubhouse, how swish, see it is on stilts to stop the flooding.

Lastly and addition to the site, I still wonder how you sleep in it.

That's it for today, hope for another once we are settled on a site with wi-fi or a decent phone signal.

The Citadel

Hi folks,
On the way back from Berck we stopped of at Montreuil-Sur-Mer and The Citadel which for anyone wondering is on a 50 meter hill overlooking the Canche Valley. It was buils in stage between the 13th and the 19th century to protect the town and the inlet.

This is the main entrance where we entered through to pay our 3 Euros each, we thought it was good value for money as there was so much to explore and the leaflets came in several languages as well.

Just in case you were wondering, no it wasn't my camera lens, the building was this shape! below is a side elevation from above the ramparts.

Having climbed up onto the ramparts the views were far reaching.

These are the steps I climbed beside the White Tower, fortunately the way down was much easier at the other end as it leveled out to grass.

Another view from the top of the ramparts across the countryside below.

One of Sues' showing the wall and the arch construction.

Arch through the Bastion, an escape route for the soldiers.

Next two are through the Bastion, see how the walls were strengthened and raised through the ages.

You can see the different brickwork of the Tower of Queen Berthe better in the shot below.

This is a very modern contraption called a Chaise de contemplation which you lean on and it allows you to look at the sky.

Shot of me trying it out, a very strange experience as well.

Primroses in the grounds.

Lastly a final view with the trees in blossom.

Thanks for taking the time to look and Sue for taking some of the pictures, Mike
