Climb to High Peak, Phew!

Hi folks,

Left Congleton heading north east to Glossop, after a look around and some purchases from the Caravan shop and a tasty sausage sandwich we set off towards High Peaks but unfortunately went the wrong route and had to climb a very steep hill which made our Winnie gasp a bit, at the top of the peak this was the view.

To the right was Glossop.

in the distance at 600 meters you can see Manchester.

We arrived at Hayfield camp site and settled in for the night.  Lots of motor homes and tents but no caravans due to the access. Smashing site with all the amenities, luxury at last!

After dinner we walked through the trees towards the
town and a well earned pint.

The river followed us through the trees.

Heading back to the campsite, now was it left or right?

Finally waiting for us was this Bunny welcoming us back for the night.

Off to Buxton tomorrow, thanks for looking. Luv Mike

Great Haywood, with dodgey internet

Hi Folks,

We arrived at this location at lunchtime after traveling past Brummy. A wonderful spot but as with these places modern technology in way behind. The area was a bit of a bind to find as well and in the end we followed two mature ladies into the area which is on the Trent and Mersey canal. We also visited Shugborough Lord Litchfield's former home. All this will be come clear once I have a better signal.

I did manage to upload one shot.

Be it with the aid of a piece of wet string, bear with me I shall be near Manchester tomorrow so things could improve. Luv Mike

Traveling and Visiting Day

Hi folks,

today we packed up from a nice visit to the pub.

Winnie was parked up in the back and locked in overnight.

It was another glorious day so we had our early morning tea in the garden at the rear of the pub. those weird pole like things are a large canopy which keep the drinkers dry in a downpour.

After packing we set off to visit Kenilworth Castle and had a smashing time. I am waiting untill we get home for these as the internet is very slow here tonight.

At lunch time we had some very nice sandwiches and cake and had a long chat with our friends Chris and Dave. We then had a look around their garden and played with Max.

Off we set to the campsite which was not far away and set up for another lovely summers evening in the countryside and a nice meal as well.

Short and sweet tonight, Luv Mike

Upton House and Gardens

Hi folks,

Today on our way northwards we visited Upton House which is being cared for by he National Trust who are the gardens to their 1930's style.  A little background of the house, it was bought in the 1930's by the 2nd Viscount Bearsted whose family made their money from oil.  Those who are familiar with my local area, it is the same Bearsted which is on the outskirts of Maidstone in Kent.

The lower terrace of the land is where the Mirror Pond is with a bog area to one side, it gives wonderful reflections.

This time of year there is an abundance of Lupins and Delphiniums which give such colour.

All round the various levels of the garden the sunshine was working magic on the colours so I wanted to share some with you.

There were so many things to photograph that I have had to leave out the white Water Lilies, the borders, more reflections and the fruit and vegetable sections.

Thanks for coming on our visit, watch this space for more travels.  Luv Mike

Kings Cross

Hi folks,

across the road into another station, a bit more high tech than the last although it had a history as you can see in the plaque..

Much more modern, light and airy.

With its fantastic purple roof which is made up of individual coloured lights which show up in the camera but not the naked eye.

In a shop window, I think this chap had waited too long for his train.

Kings Cross if famous for Harry Potter and my two companions got it on the act.

Part of the set used in the film which appealed to the younger generation.

This made us laugh, it is a hologram at the bottom of the escalator advising you to keep hold of you luggage and mind the step as you boarded. I really thought that this shot would not come out.

Lastly a view of the passengers at a slow shutter speed and held perfectly still giving the illusion of speed of some of the passengers.

Thanks for looking, luv Mike.

St Pancras Sculpture

Hi folks.

Continuing on with the sights around this train station.

At the end of the original station and under the clock stands a bronze 20 ton sculpture, 29.5 feet (9 meters) of a man and woman in an embrace called "The Meeting Place".

Designed by Paul Day erected in 2007

Around the bottom of the sculpture around the plinth are these fascinating additions added in 2008 of this bronze relief frieze as you can see above.

From another angle the sculpture was meant to evoke the romance of travel.

Lastly I added some colour of passengers on their travels.

Thanks for looking, luv Mike.
