UP NORTH with Sue and Winnie #12 Carlisle Cathedral

Hi folks,
second look around the Cathedral.

East Window, which contains some 14th century glass. It is 15.5 meters high and 8 meters wide the largest and most complex window in England

Through the arch and showing some of the lavish ceiling bosses.

Bishop's Throne 1880 at the end of the choir stalls

More choir stalls 46 in all. There are traces of burnt wood where weary Monks dropped of to sleep whilst holding a lighted candle. It's a wonder the place didn't burn down.

Misericords, hinged seats to keep the Monks upright and stop them falling asleep at prayers.

Salkeld Screen at the end of the choir stalls.

The Crossing with unfortunately the organ above covered up due to roof works.

Arch detail going through into the Choir stalls with Organ above.

Walking through under the Organ.

Lastly St Wilfrid's Chapel opposite the entrance.
Thanks for looking, Mike

  2. Spent 3 years as a Chorister in Carlisle Cathedral as a young boy, the architecture fascinated me then and still does. One of the best Cathedrals in the UK. Very good photographs.
