Sunday at Smarden

Hi again folks,
Sunday was not very good weather wise with lots of cloud cover and not a lot going on at the air display. The Red Arrows arrived early and produced black smoke instead of blue and white in part of the display.

We all enjoyed it though and at least it was free, last shot taken by Sue.

Headcorn with the KSACC and our Visitor

Hi again folks,
Last weekend the club visited Smarden in Kent and what a weekend it was, with lots of camping friends and this unexpected visitor .

We were camped a mile down the road from the Combined Operation and Military Vehicle Event in Headcorn and the Vulcan turned around right over the top of us to go back across the airfield.

What a wonderful sight.

Then time for cup of tea, bless her.

Whilst having our tea I noticed these feet in the grass with the big toe pointing upwards. I wonder who they belong to?

Then a walk in the trees next to the camp site and found this.

Followed by this scary tomb with flashing eyes

As evening fell it was time for a get together with our hosts Lesley and Chris, note the van with it's new Invicta flag Tony and Gloria visited us for the evening from the air show.

The day ended with a fantastic sunset and we all looked forward to a glorious Sunday.

Prague, My View # 25

Hi folks,
well this is the last of my Prague blogs on this wonderful city and I hope you enjoyed the tour.
Time to get packed for the journey home although we had all day and the cases are stored in the hotel so we could enjoy the last day as the flight was not till the evening.

This building called the "Dancing House" or the "Fred and Ginger"  was started in 1992 and completed in 1996. It was built on a site that was bombed in 1945 by the united states and was deemed to be an accident as the weather was poor at the time. Hence the strange name, a lot of thought has gone into the building although it does not blend in very well to its surroundings

 and across the Valtala River, the Castle and Cathedral on the hilltop.

Looking down the river towards the Vysehrad, you can just see the towers in the distance.

The River Valtra is distinct and it has a weir across and  boats have to navigate the lock on the far right hand side.

The building has a cafe and a restaurant so you can admire views across the city whilst you dine.

After a nice drink we walked around the city for the last time and popped in to this Museum and spent os long in there taking pictures, to many to show.

but had to show this one, its five meters long and all made out of Lego bricks.

The transportation system was wonderful although the cobbles made your feet ache, walking shoes are the order of the day.

Back near the hotel and that familiar crest adorning the bus stop popping up again.

Lastly our hotel which was fantastic and always helped us with directions and information.

well this was our last night so we stayed out late by the river with the tripod to get some night shots to take home with us.

Prague, My View # 23

Hi folks,
bit of a sad blog today as we visited The Pinkas Synagogue, its walls are lined with 80,000 Jewish victims of the Nazi genocide from Bohemia and Moravia, made us both feel very sad but was very moving.

Pinkas Synagogue is a Memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. the name Pinkas Horowitz was the grandson of a wealthy Jewish man and had the place built.

Moving on to the square by the river I was amazed at the Lion and took a closer look at the inscription.

How strange that it took till 2014 to acknowledge them.

Back to the river and the Valtava and this fantastic bridge called the Svatopluk with all its gold and ornate ironwork as shown in blog #17.  Can you see the pendulum on the hill?

This is a functional metronome which replaced a statue of Stalin, the metronome is 23 meters high.

Prague, My View # 22

Continuing with Prague another visit to a Synagogue, this time in the Jewish Quarter, the " Spanish Synagogue.

Looking up into the wondrous ceiling.

Built in 1868  it holds Concerts on a Monday night.
