Rye Bank Holiday Weekend

Hi folks,

last weekend Sue and I went to our first Club event with Winnie the Motorhome down to Rye with the Kent and Sussex Auto Camping Club. The club made us very welcome and really helped us have a great weekend. The camp site was the Rugby club just on the outskirts of Rye with only a ten minute walk into the town. We were blessed with a wonderful weekend weather wise as well.

Down by the Harbour are many shops selling various antique items and bric-a-brac which would make a good place for  BBC's Bargain Hunt.

Below is the information centre by the harbour.

One of the many items on sale although this lamp looks like a Brillo pad was used on it.

Various other items for sale nailed to the door of the shop.

The town has a very long history and was once a Cinque Port as the pub below shows.

This unique building was once the water works for the town now used as a shop.

On the opposite wall was a mirror for sale at the princely sum on £4.

Sweeps Rochester, a few more now we are home

Great time although the parade was a bit congested so I stuck to the early morning shots.

Sweeps Festival Rochester

Hi folks,

The other week Sue, Margaret, Gillian and I attended the Sweeps festival, a very colourful event, just a few to get you in the mood.

The high street was full of colour, music and dance.

Load of fantastic costumes as well.

Love this one, the boy (girl really) with her can of coke.

Lulworth Cove

Hi folks,
well this is the last of out trip to Dorset, back across to Chichester and then home along the coast.

First off this magnificent cove and although a bit cold the scenery was lovely and dear Sue came with me this time.

Stair Hole, arches cut in the Portland stone.

This cottage was just by the cove.

Shall we have a drink, heck no the sun was too nice to go indoors.

This place was just in view as the foliage was not too thick.

Lastly back on the beach before an ice cream and back to the campsite.

Durdle Door

Hi folks,

nearly at the end of our holiday and at the end of April, I am beginning to think this was the summer.

From the camp site at Corfe we decided to take Winnie to see the door on the Jurassic coast not far from where we were staying and see the natural limestone arch that goes into the sea.

I parked up and set off down the rugged path on my own as it was too much for Sue with her poorly back.

As I got further down the cliff path I was amazed at the colour of the sea just behind the door which is on the other side of the cliff.

A bit further on there she was, the door which I thought looked like a dragon drinking from the sea.

Looking across the white cliffs that stood out proudly facing the sea.

Finally looking the other way you can just see the cliff starting to fall into the sea and on the night before we arrived another 20 meters of cliff fell into the sea taking the footpath with it.

Back at the van we had lunch and went on to Lulworth Cove.

Lymington Salt Water Baths

Hi folks,

whilst away on holiday last month we came across this swimming bath with a difference.

The poster on the left tells the story of the baths, unfortunately we went on a dull drab day and it was closed. Below the ticket office was obviously quite new.

Across the baths seating all along the back with the masts of the Yachts in the sea over the wall, I expect there was a gate to let sea water in but stop it going out as the tide turned.

On the right are the yacht club premises which early in the baths life was owned by them. In 1929 the council purchased the baths from the yacht club.

The baths after a long closure were opened in 1929, look on the balcony and you can make out the dignitaries and even a chap with a wig. (Picture taken from the board by the ticket office).

Same shot today and the baths are still used in the summer, the first aid building is an addition

Leeds Castle Super Car Seige

Hi folks,

Saturday Sue, Ian, Daisy and I attended this event at the castle although the weather was supposed to be bright it was as usual dull and overcast for most of the day, at least the rain held off, just.

Here are a few I managed to get.

I just loved the pretty TVR's and their pearlesent colours.

What a number plate!
