Church of St Thomas a Becket

Hi folks,

remember the church last week in Tudeley, well we went on to this church only a mile and a half away in Capel which is dedicated to the Kentish saint, Thomas a Becket, in the grounds is a yew tree under which Becket is supposed to have preached.

View looking towards the altar, note the tie beams that straddle and strengthen the nave roof with their vertical columns are medieval.
It retired from full time in 1986 and is now maintained by The
Churches Conservation Trust, they do a very good job opening up these churches for us to admire.

Close up of the windows in the nave, it was a rather dull day outside but the reds, blues and golds shone through.

The north wall these paintings were uncovered  in 1927 and were hidden under old plaster and date from c 1200 they were restored in 1970.

Lastly the view down the aisle to the entrance and another angle on the roof.  Look on the right hand side before the arch, can you see a "pointed" object?  This is the font covered with a 17th century cover, sorry I did not get a close up as we didn't have too long before the church closed at 4 pm.

So there you are, a small cosy and peaceful place, we were pleased to be able to get out and about to see and enjoy.

Thanks for looking, see you again soon.

Luv Mike
