St Leonards Church Hythe

Hi folks,
back again after a few days away in the motorhome.

Today we go to this Church perched high on the hill in the centre of Hythe with a secret that I will reveal in the second part. The church is nearly a thousand years old and has been modified throughout the ages. It is in a prominent position on the pilgrims way from Hythe across to Canterbury.

The Church is named after a Norman Saint, shown in the window of the porch as you enter.

The Altar and the Chancel deemed to be the finest in Europe.

The pulpit designed with Venetian Mosaics and installed in 1870

The organ was the last built by Arthur Harrison in 1936 before his death and was rebuilt in 1991.

East Window designed in 1951 to illustrate Hythe's role in the front line during the war.

End of part one, part two reveals the secrets in the Crypt.

Thanks for looking.

Best regards, Mike

  3. Last time I was in this church was for a family funeral. there was so much snow they could not get the herse back to remove the coffin, so we all left the church, leaving him peacfully in front of the alter in the church that he had worshiped in for so many years.
    It actualy felt right.
