Heritage Days in the Medway Towns

Hi folks,

Today, Saturday was the chance to go around the open buildings for the Heritage Days which consist of four days nationally around Britain.

First off was the Bridge Wardens at Rochester overlooking the Medway, in fact the building was erected to oversee the bridge across the river. The downside was that they are currently doing work on the outside which was a shame, never the less inside was well worth a visit.

Inside you enter the Bridge Chapel.

Picture of the old bridge

One of the many stained glass windows on the staircase leading to the first floor. There were six in all, this one depicting the old bridge.

Last is a plaster plaque on the wall depicting the old bridge.

Next on the list was the pumping station in Chatham.
This station is open to the public on Saturday mornings until the end of  September then the first Saturday in the month for the rest of the year.

This is an electric pump, you can see the motor in the foreground with the large belt driving the pump at the rear.

Engine part of the pump you can see the exhaust pipe traveling across to the outside.

This model of a Windmill was in prominent position in the pumping station and had a lot of detail.

Still more to show as we then went to Gillingham, but that's for another day.

Thanks for dropping in.

nite nite, luv Mike XX
